Lab and Sim

Lab is the garage. Sim is the field. The Lab · Sim toggle in the centre of the top bar switches between them.

In the garage you create. You choose parts, fit them together, run them on a bench, and lay out the course you will fly. Nothing in the garage flies.

In the field you fly what you built, and you cannot change it there. If the prop is wrong, you go back to the garage and change it.

When it is unclear where something belongs, Lothal asks:

Does it change what the drone or the world is? Then it is Lab. Does it only change what is happening to them? Then it is Sim.

Swapping a propeller changes what the drone is: Lab. A gust pushing the drone off line is what is happening to it: Sim. Placing a gate changes the world: Lab (the Field section). Flying through the gate is Sim.

Sim reads a finished drone and a finished course and reports what happened. The only things a flight writes back are its consequences: the charge it used, a lap time, and a recording if you made one. This is enforced by the screen itself: in Sim there is no part list, no section row and no tools, so there is nothing to change a part with.

Studio reads flights you recorded. A recording names the drone that flew, but Lothal never turns a recording back into a drone. If it could, a log would become a second, drifting parts catalog, written by a flight. To fly the same build again, pick its parts in Lab.

  • Lab also takes you back from any bench, the Frame bench or Studio.
  • Sim hides everything except Lab · Sim · Rooms, so there is always a way out.
  • Rooms holds the Frame bench and Studio. The other benches open from their parts’ pages. See Benches.
